The challenge

An interview that needed to feel completely real

Karel Hendriks speaks openly about working with Doctors Without Borders in extremely dangerous conditions, the risks, the purpose, the weight of that kind of work. Overly polished audio would undercut exactly what makes the interview powerful. The challenge was a mix that was technically clean but emotionally honest: professional without feeling manufactured.

The approach

Transparency over polish

Documentary post-production is a discipline of restraint. We cleaned up the dialogue without scrubbing it of its texture, managed the ambient audio to support rather than fight the voice, and mixed the whole piece to broadcast standard without ever letting the process become audible. The goal: for the viewer to hear the conversation, not the work behind it.

The solution

Post-production in service of the story

Dialogue editing

Clean, transparent editing that preserved the natural rhythm and texture of Karel Hendriks' delivery, keeping the emotion intact while removing distractions.

Audio mix

A balanced mix with dialogue front and centre, atmosphere in support, and a spatial quality that keeps the viewer present without drawing attention to itself.

Post-production

Full audio post from rough cut to broadcast delivery, technically clean, tonally honest, and ready for national and international distribution.

Why it matters

Audio that gets out of the story's way

The measure of post-production in a documentary context is invisibility. If the audio does its job, you only remember what the interviewee said, not how the room sounded.
