The case for sound, in numbers
Working at a museum, festival or heritage organisation?
Seven of our twelve projects are for the cultural sector: Museumvereniging, three editions of the national Museumweek, Museumkaart, Vrijheidskwartier and Festival Oude Muziek. Public funding, a broad rather than segmented audience, and subject matter that is sometimes solemn call for a different approach than a consumer brand.
Which service do you need?
The four services overlap in places, and most projects begin with one of them. This table helps you choose.
| Your situation | Service | Timeline | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| We want our brand to sound the same everywhere, for years | Sonic branding & music strategy | 6–10 weeks | Sonic logo, brand anthem, UX sound and written guidelines |
| We need music under a specific campaign | Music for advertising | 1–2 weeks per track | Original composition or rerecording, plus every cutdown |
| The audio exists but does not sound professional enough | Mixing & mastering | 3–5 working days | Balanced mix and master to your platform’s spec |
| Picture is locked and the sound needs finishing | Audio post production | Per project | Dialogue clean-up, sound design, final mix and delivery to spec |
How do they relate to each other?
Sonic branding sits on top: it is the system the other three draw from. Music for advertising makes individual pieces inside that system, or outside it when no system exists yet. Mixing & mastering and audio post production are finishing — they get existing material ready to air, whoever made it.
In practice most brands start with a campaign and arrive at sonic branding later. That is not the cheapest order, but it is the most common one.
Can we do all of it at once?
Yes, and on a national campaign that is the rule rather than the exception. For Boska we handled composition, post production, mix and mastering in one run. That saves a handover, and with it a round where somebody has to explain what was meant.
Not sure which service you need?
Describe your project in a few lines and we will tell you which of these it calls for.
